World War II was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, although related conflicts began earlier. The vast majority of the world's countries - including all the powers - eventually formed two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis.
World War II it directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30 countries.
Was the deadliest conflict in human history, marked by 50 to 85 million fatalities. It included massacres, the genocide of the Holocaust, strategic bombing, starvation, disease, and the first use of nuclear weapons in history.

The war in Europe, si concluse with the invasion of Germany by the Western Allies and the Soviet Union. With the capture of Berlin, Germany surrendered unconditionally on May 8, 1945.
Following the refusal of Japan to surrender under its terms, the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6 and 9 August respectively.
Thus ended the war in Asia, cementing the total victory of the Allies.
The British Commonwealth, Empire and
Allied victory celebrations held in London on 8 June 1946. They consisted mainly of a military parade through the city and a night time fireworks display. Most British allies took part in the parade.
Following the celebrations the British postal authorities decided a philatelic tribute in celebration of the victory and the peace.
The result was the Omnibus 1946 Victory - a serie of 164 stamps from 62 different countries.
Many territories chose to use a single iconic design distributed by the Crown Agents, showing the Houses of Parliament from across the Thames. Other colonies produced their own stamp designs, specifically relevant to their experiences during the war.
In philately, an omnibus issue is an issue of stamps by several countries with a common subject and which may share a uniform design. Omnibus issues have often been made by countries under common political control or groups of colonies due to the close co-operation required to produce the issue.
