Selangor 1949-55 Sultan Hisamud-Din Alam Shah

Selangor is one of the thirteen states of Malaysia. In 1874 the British government forced the Sultan of Selangor to accept a British Resident. In 1896, Selangor, combined with, Negri Sembilan, Perak and Pahang to form the Federated Malay States, became the Federation of Malaysia in 1948. The Federation gained independence within the Commonwealth in 1957.

The Federation of Malaysia was formed in 1948 from the possessions of the United Kingdom of Penang and Malacca and the so-called nine Malay states, replacing the Malayan Union. Within the Federation of the Malay states were protectorates of the United Kingdom while Penang and Malacca were colonial territories. The Federation gained independence within the Commonwealth in 1957.

Queen Elizabeth II  Coronation

On 2nd June 1953 Princess Elizabeth was crowned Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Ceylon, thus assuming the role of Head of the Commonwealth. Elizabeth ascended to the throne of these countries following the death of his father, King George VI. During the coronation ceremony, Queen Elizabeth swore an oath to uphold the law in his kingdom and take over the government of the Church of England.
