Somalia is one of East Africa country located in the Horn of Africa. In the late nineteenth century, the British and Italians gained control of the Somali coast, leading to the creation of protectorates of British Somaliland (north) and the Italian Somaliland (center and south). In 1936, Italian Somaliland was made to merge Italian East Africa. After the Second World War, the north of the country was a British protectorate, while the remainder was assigned to a trustee Italian. In 1960, the two regions were united in the Somali Republic.
