Greece is a country in Southeast Europe strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Modern Greece traces its roots to the civilization of ancient Greece, considered the cradle of Western civilization. The modern greek state, which includes most of the historic core of Greek civilization, was established in 1830, following the Greek War of Independence from the Ottoman Empire. In 1923 the reigning king was forced to abdicate and the Following year Greece was declared a republic. In 1935 the king was Recalled by a "plebiscite" of the people. Greece Became a republic in June 1973.

The Universal Postal Union is a specialized agency of the United Nations that coordinates postal policies among member countries, in addition to the worldwide postal system. Before the establishment of the UPU, each country had to prepare a separate treaty with other nations that post had wanted to bring international mail to and from. The UPU was created in 1874
