The island is situated in the southern Caribbean Sea, off the coast of Venezuela. Since 1815, Curaçao and Dependencies formed a colony of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Colonial rule expires at the end of the Second World War. In 1948, a new constitution comes into force and the territory became part of the "Netherlands Antilles". Become a direct dependency of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 2010, at the time of the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles
