Niger is a country in West Africa, is a state with no outlet to the sea and owes its name to the Niger River running through it. Between the tenth and nineteenth centuries in Niger there was a strong kingdom called Hausa. The apogee of this culture began in the fifteenth century, to begin to decay with the European conquest of the Niger in the eighteenth century. French colonization was completed in the nineteenth century, when the current territory of Niger became part of French West Africa until it became independent in 1960.
