Canada - 1953 - Coronation

Canada is a federal state in the northern part of North America, and is, after Russia, the largest country in the world. The first Europeans to arrive on the coast of Canada were the Vikings around the year one thousand. The Canada became a possession of France in 1534 and then subjected to the dominion of Great Britain in 1763. The dominion of Canada gained full independence in 1931.

On 2nd June 1953 Princess Elizabeth was crowned Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Ceylon, thus assuming the role of Head of the Commonwealth. Elizabeth ascended to the throne of these countries following the death of his father, King George VI. During the coronation ceremony, Queen Elizabeth swore an oath to uphold the law in his kingdom and take over the government of the Church of England.
