Nepal is a landlocked sovereign state located in South Asia. The Nepal's mountainous north has eight of the ten highest mountains in the world, including the highest point on Earth, mount Everest. A monarchy throughout most of its history, Nepal was ruled by the Shah dynasty of kings from 1768 until 2008, when the monarchy was abolished and established a federal democratic republic.
