Germany Democratic Republic 1959 Leipzig Trade FairThe German Democratic Republic, also known as East Germany, is a country existed from 1949 to 1990 corresponding to the territory previously occupied zone of Germany assigned to the Soviet Union at the end of World War II. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, followed by free elections, was reunited with West Germany 3 October 1990 in the current Germany.

The Leipzig Trade Fair (German: Leipziger Messe) was a major fair for trade across Central Europe for nearly a millennium. After the Second World War, its location happened to lie within the borders of East Germany, whereupon it became one of the most important trade fairs of Comecon and was traditionally a meeting place for businessmen and politicians from both sides of the Iron Curtain.
