Brazil is a federal republic of South America. The first navigator who explored the coast of Brazil was Amerigo Vespucci in 1499, and in 1533, the King of Portugal divided Brazil into 12 territories and allowed them to foster noble who became feudal lords. In 1822 declared its independence from Portugal and became a constitutional monarchy. In 1889, a bloodless revolution forced Peter II to abdicate. Republic was proclaimed, and adopted the Federal Constitution.

The Universal Postal Union is a specialized agency of the United Nations that coordinates postal policies among member countries, in addition to the worldwide postal system. Before the establishment of the UPU, each country had to prepare a separate treaty with other nations that post had wanted to bring international mail to and from. The UPU was created in 1874.
