South Africa, north of the Cape of Good Hope between the Orange and Vaal Rivers. Orange Free State was an independent republic, 1854-1900. Orange River Colony existed from May, 1900, to June, 1910, when it united with Cape of t Good Hope, Natal and the Transvaal to form the Union of South Africa.
