South Shetlands - 1944 - overprinted

An archipelago in the southern Atlantic Ocean off Antarctica. Formerly used as land bases by sealers and whalers. Dependency of the Falkland Islands. Since 1962 the islands are part of the British Antarctic Territory although they have also been claimed by Argentina and Chile.
