South Africa - 1937 - Coronation

The Republic of South Africa is located at the southern tip of the African continent. In 1652 the Dutch founded Cape Town, occupied by the British in the late eighteenth century. The union was formed on May 1910, and includes the former British colonies of Cape of Good Hope, Natal, Transvaal and the Orange Free State, Which Became provinces. The union Became a republic in 1961.



Coronation of George VI and Queen Elizabeth

King George VI became king after the abdication of his brother Edward VIII in december 1936. Her coronation took place on may 12, 1937, the date previously intended for Edward's coronation. In throughout the British Empire is emitted stamps to celebrate the event.
