New Guinea 1937 Coronation

On an island with the same name in the South Pacific, north of Australia. Mandate administered by Australia. The territory occupies the northeastern part of the island and includes New Britain and other nearby islands. It was formerly a German possession and should not be confused with British New Guinea (Papua) which is in the southeastern part of the same island, nor  Netherlands New Guinea.

King George VI became king after the abdication of his brother Edward VIII in december 1936. Her coronation took place on may 12, 1937, the date previously intended for Edward's coronation. In throughout the British Empire is emitted stamps to celebrate the event.
