South West Africa - 1937 - Coronation Issue

Southwestern Africa between Angola, Botswana and South Africa, bordering on the Atlantic Ocean. Formerly a German possession, South West Africa was occupied by South African forces in 1915 and by the Treaty of Versailles was mandated to the Union of South Africa. On March 1990 it became Namibia.







Coronation of George VI and Queen Elizabeth

King George VI became king after the abdication of his brother Edward VIII in december 1936. Her coronation took place on may 12, 1937, the date previously intended for Edward's coronation. In throughout the British Empire is emitted stamps to celebrate the event.
