Bosnia and Herzegovina is a state located in the western Balkans. Annexed to the Ottoman Empire from the mid-15th century to the end of the 19th century, and as a result of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, until the First World War. In the period between the two world wars, Bosnia was part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, and after the Second World War, the country was granted full status as a republic in the Yugoslav federation recently formed. After the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the country proclaimed its independence in 1992, which was followed by the war in Bosnia, which lasts until the end of 1995.
