The Italian East Africa was formed in 1935 by the union of the Italian possessions in Eritrea and Somalia which later (1936) was also aggregated Ethiopia. The territory was placed under the control of a governor-general who had the title of viceroy of Ethiopia and resided in Addis Abeba. With the Treaty of Paris of 1947 was dissolved, was reconstituted the kingdom of Ethiopia, Eritrea incorporated, while Somalia was under Italian trusteeship until 1960, when it achieved independence.
