The Comoro Archipelago consist of the islands of Mayotte, Anjouan, Grand Comoro and Moheli, which issued their own stamps as French protectorates or colonies from 1887-1914. The archipelago was attached to Madagascar from 1914 to 1946, when it became a separate French territory. In 1975 Anjouan, Grand Comoro ad Moheli united to declare indipendence as the State of Comoro. Mayotte remained French.
