The Oltregiuba is the region of southern Somalia, located south of the river Juba. Disputed by various ethnic groups was considered as part of the dominions of the Sultan of Zanzibar. When Zanzibar became a British protectorate, Britain, took over the administration in 1895. After the First World War was ceded to Italy as colony Oltregiuba and in 1926 joined the Italian Somaliland. In 1941 it was occupied by the British until 1950. From 1950 to 1960, together with the Italian Somalia was under Italian trusteeship. On 1 July 1960, the Oltregiuba, along with the rest of Italian Somaliland and British Somaliland, became part of the independent Republic of Somalia.
