The Solomon Islands are a group of volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean south. The archipelago was discovered by the Spanish in 1567 and in 1893 became a British protectorate, a status he held until July 7, 1978 when independence was proclaimed.

Coronation of George VI and Queen Elizabeth
