The Bahamas is an island country in Central America consists of an archipelago of 700 islands and islets in the Atlantic Ocean, east of Florida. Discovered during the first voyage of Christopher Columbus became part of the Spanish crown, were later conquered by the British in the seventeenth century and became independent in 1973.
