Cameroun stamps of 1946, various subjects

On the west coast Africa, north of the equator. Before WWI, Cameroun (Kamerun) was a German Protectorate. It was occupied during the war by Great Britain and France and in 1922 was mandated to these countries by the League of Nations. The French-mandated part became the independent State of Cameroun on 1960. The Southern Cameroons, a United Kingdom Trust Territory, joined this state to form the Federal Republic of Cameroun on 1961. The name was changed to United Republic of Cameroon on 1972.
